Unemployment Insurance
Unemployment insurance is just like auto or home insurance - except that your employer (not you) pays the insurance "premiums" to a state agency that makes payments to you when you lose your job.
If you lose your job - and it wasn't your fault - you might be able to collect money through your state's unemployment insurance program. The amount you receive depends on how much you were making before you lost your job. You might be able to receive payments for up to 26 weeks, as long as you try to find a new job during that time.
To avoid higher premiums, your employer may challenge your right to unemployment insurance benefits. If that happens, you should contact a lawyer who specializes in employment law.
