Baha'i

A relatively new religion, the Baha'i faith originated in Persia circa 1844 and has since expanded rapidly throughout the world.

Growing from Islamic roots, Baha'i promotes the unity of all religions and a belief that there is only one, transcendent and unknowable God who created all. While teaching that all religions emanated from a common spiritual source, followers nonetheless recognize doctrinal and philosophical differences, attributing them to historical circumstances. The Baha'i assert that God speaks to the faithful through prophets, Divine Teachers he sends to communicate his word to mankind. This, however, has created conflict with followers of Islam, who believe that Mohammed was the last of God's prophets.

Spiritual education of the soul continues after death, at which time the soul leaves the physical body and is transported into God's presence. Seeing an afterlife as a place with infinite possibilities where the soul may continue its quest for further exploration and development, the Baha'i view death in a positive light, as an important progression on a great journey.
